【演讲者介绍】：林发勤，中央财经大学国际经济与贸易学院副教授，博士毕业于澳大利亚阿德莱德大学和对外经济贸易大学(双学位) ，他的主要研究领域包括：国际贸易、FDI和发展经济学的应用研究，目前已在国际SSCI期刊European Economic Review，Journal of Comparative Economics, World Development , Economics of Transition, Economics Letters, China Economic Review等以及国内权威期刊《经济研究》，《世界经济》等发表了多篇学术论文。
【演讲题目】 Cross-Country Dissemination of Culture via FDI: Micro Evidence from China
【摘要】This paper studies how foreign direct investment (FDI) contributes to cultural convergence across countries. In particular, we focus on whether multinational firms transfer culture of freedom of speech (FOS) to local workers in China. Using a large individual survey data, we find that those who work in foreign-invested enterprises (FIEs), especially non-Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan (HMT) invested enterprises tend to prefer FOS than those who do not work in FIEs. Such pattern is also observed in other related human right measures common to western democracies but not in local cultures. Using policy towards FDI as exogenous instruments, and other complementary identification strategies, we can establish the causal link of such culture transfer.
