Environmental Protection Through Modern Environmental Governance
Lecturer:
Dimitri de Boer is the team leader of the EU – China Environmental Governance Program, a 15 million euro cooperation between the European Union and China’s Ministry of Environmental Protection. The program seeks to improve environmental governance in China by promoting access to environmental information, public participation in environmental decision-making, access to justice in environmental matters, and corporate environmental responsibility. Such policies have proven to be highly effective in Europe and around the world.
Main Content:
How society is involved in environmental protection in other countries. E.g. the development of environmental law and civil society in the United States, the Aarhus Convention in Europe, and specific examples (good and bad) of information disclosure, public participation and environmental litigation in European member states.
In relation to China, he will address questions such as: What are the recent developments underway in China, including the rising social awareness of pollution problems, the War on Pollution, the new Environmental Protection Law, the new Environmental and Resource Tribunal of the Supreme People’s Court, and the emerging Air Pollution Prevention Law?
How will this process evolve in China in the coming years, drawing from experience in other countries?
It will be an interactive lecture where difficult questions will be raised, questions will be asked to the audience, and the audience will have the opportunity to express ideas and pose questions to the speaker.
