张跃，经济学博士，硕士生导师；主要研究领域为中国近代对外贸易史、企业史和金融史。主持国家社会科学基金和省部级社科基金多项；在国际重要经济学期刊Journal of Mathematical Economics，国内重要学术期刊《中国经济史研究》《财经研究》《浙江社会科学》《史林》《安徽史学》等发表论文二十余篇；著有专著《点债成金：私人信用下的近代企业资本》《近代华茶对外贸易的衰落：基于中间商制度的研究》等。

主讲人简介：
Xidong Guo is a researcher at Geary Institute for Public Policy, University College Dublin. He employs both theoretical and empirical approaches in health economics. Xidong focuses on the optimal design of healthcare payment systems among the government, hospitals, and medical consultants. He evaluates healthcare policies, taking medical consultants’ incentives, patients’ welfare, and as-sociated externality into consideration. He pays attention to policy implications of academic research by producing public reports for Irish healthcare policy, which raised public attention and was reported by media such as The Business Post. Xidong achieved his PhD in Economics degree from University College Dublin in 2023.
摘要：
This paper evaluates the effectiveness of the voluntary reform implemented in Ireland. In 2008, in the hope to reduce waiting lists of public hospitals, a new optional con-tract was issued to consultants hired before 2008. This new contract limits the proportion of private patients that consultants could treat within public hospitals, while and compensating consultants with a higher fixed salary. The theoretical model establishes that this reform reduced the overall number of treated patients because the restriction on private practices disincentivises consultants to attend to more pa-tients. A difference-in-differences approach is then employed where inpatients entering through the Emergency Department are considered as the control group. The Little'Law implies that the Length of Stay (LOS) is negatively correlated with the number of admissions. This paper shows a 0.29-dayincrease in the LOS for public patients, which suggests that this reform failed to address the waiting list issue.

摘要：
What determines the prevalence of family firms? In this project, we investigate the role of historical family culture in the spatial distribution of family firms. Using detailed firm-level data from China, we find that there is a larger share of family firms in regions with a stronger historical family culture, as measured by genealogy density. The results are further confirmed by an instrumental variables approach and a matching approach. Examining mechanisms, we find that entrepreneurs in regions with a stronger historical family culture: i) tend to have family members engage more in firms; ii) are more likely to raise initial capital from family members; iii) are more willing to pass on the firms to their children. Historical family culture predicts better firm performance partly due to a lower leverage ratio.

Jing Cai is an Associate Professor at the University of Maryland. She received her PhD from the University of California at Berkeley in 2012. Her research areas are development economics and household finance. Her current research examines the growth of micro-enterprises and SMEs, impacts of tax incentives on firm behavior, and diffusion and impacts of financial innovations in developing countries. She is a Co-Chair of the firm sector of the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), and an affiliate of the Bureau for Research and Economic Analysis of Development (BREAD). She currently serves as an associate editor of the American Economic Journal: Applied Economics, the Journal of Development Economics, and the Economic Development and Cultural Change.
摘要：
We created experimental variation across markets in China in the share of firms having access to a new loan product. Access to finance had a large positive direct effect on the performance of treated firms, but a similar-sized negative indirect effect on that of firms with treated competitors, leading to non-detectable gains in producer surplus. Access to finance had a positive direct effect on business quality and consumer satisfaction, and a negative effect on price, which were not offset by indirect effects, implying net gains in consumer surplus. We document other indirect effects and combine effects in a welfare evaluation.

王灿，清华大学环境学院教授，环境规划与管理系系主任、清华大学碳中和研究院减污降碳协同中心主任。主要从事气候变化经济学与政策、环境-能源-经济系统分析、低碳技术与政策综合评估的研究工作。获国家杰出青年科学基金、万人计划科技领军人才支持，曾任联合国气候变化框架公约技术转让专家组、技术执行委员会等多个委员会成员，是第4次国家气候变化评估报告领衔作者、第6次IPCC评估报告评审编辑、Carbon Neutrality副主编、One Earth等期刊编委。发表学术论文200余篇，出版《碳达峰碳中和：迈向新发展路径》《气候变化经济学》《全球气候公约谈判实务》等著作7部。
